There are hundreds of books about career reinvention on the market and many of them are quite good. It’s hard to pick my favorites, but these six are right at the top of my list:
- Do What You Are: Discover the Perfect Career for You Through the Secrets of Personality Type by Paul D Tieger and Barbara Tieger: This book helps you make the link between your unique personality traits and possible career options. Includes information on today’s most popular new career tracks and insights into how your personality impacts career choice.
- Repacking Your Bags: Lighten Your Load for the Rest of Your Life Author Richard Leider has a number of books and I am a fan of them all. However, this book is particularly well-suited to boomers who find themselves at a crossroads as they begin to contemplate the “retirement” years.
- Strategies for Successful Career Change: Finding Your Very Best Next Work Life by Martha Mangelsdorf: This book offers practical, tried-and-true strategies for navigating a successful career reinvention. Includes many helpful resources and inspirational success stories.
- Wishcraft: How to Get What You Really Want If I could pick one “must-read” book for my clients, this would be it. Author Barbara Sher has a magical way of getting you to see how to turn your dreams into reality. She has a number of excellent books on career reinvention — highly recommend them all!
- Encore: Finding Work that Matters in the Second Half of Life by Marc Freedman: If you are interested in doing “work that matters” this book will inspire, educate and inform. I loved reading the profiles of mid-life career changers who have successfully transitioned into a wide range of non-profit careers.
- What’s Next? Follow Your Passion and Find Your Dream Job by Kerry Hannon: Filled with interesting second-act stories from people who have reinvented their careers mid-life (and includes a number of helpful tips, strategies and resources.)
